    father of an eleven year old boy but he is not in touch with this child. He is presently homeless and in conjunction with the intake interview, has noted  that he wants access to "secure safe housing." This middle aged man has severe medical problems but presents a nice, clean appearance. The last time that this client worked was  about five years ago. He has been homeless just a bit over nine years. Biological Perspective The client has been a drug user all of his life. He began  using marijuana and alcohol at the age of fourteen, but he had actually started with glue at the age of nine. Although throughout adolescence and adulthood, the client has used  cocaine, heroin, and other assorted substances, he did not use crack until the age of 35. It is likely that the substance abuse has contributed to his negative state of  health. Interestingly, he reports that there are no other members of the family engaged in substance abuse. Among his medical problems are gonorrhea, an STD that was diagnosed in 1989.  He has problems with his liver and so that has to be monitored. Likely, the drug abuse has had an impact on his liver as that is the organ that  processes such substances. He is currently taking several medications including but not limited to an anti-viral medicine used to treat HIV, and medication for thrush. He claims that he presently  is not using illegal drugs but only taking the prescribed medications for his illnesses. In conclusion, the patient has a history of drug abuse but has been through treatment programs  a number of times. Still, he has serious medical problems that are likely related to his past drug usage. He is under medical care and seems to be complying with
