    foundational paradigms involved. Community nursing is based on the integration of socially and culturally-defined resources in the development of strategic planning for health initiatives. While school nursing is  based on creating positive educational experiences for students through necessary support, the foundation for any school programs is educational, rather than behavioral or sociocultural. The methods for maintaining a  successful project must identify the impacts that these differences have on the approaches of asthma educators and in the development of systems to support the program. For example, in  a community nursing scenario, asthma education would rarely be mandated for participation in any other program. At the school level, though, the use of prescription inhalers in the educational  setting can be limited to those children who have an asthma action plan on file and who have parents or guardians who have participated in the asthma education programming.  The mandating of participation is indicative of the difference in a school model and is based on legal liabilities for school-aged children when utilizing prescription medications in the school environment.  Schools can require that children in need of inhalers demonstrate active understanding of the appropriate use before it is used independently in the educational setting. As a result  of these differences, nursing professionals should identify separate roles for school and community nursing professionals. For example, the community nurse may be responsible for designing the educational model and  integrating appropriate new materials commonly used in the community health setting. The school nurse may take on the role of planning and policymaking in the school, as well as  the identification and notification of families of children with asthma. The development of separate roles is important to the overall success of the program. If the program is
