methods of intervention that serve to prevent school violence as well as restructure the thought process associated with students who instigate such behavior. In their article entitled "School violence:
Prevalence and Intervention Strategies for At Risk Adolescents," the authors have utilized nationally represented surveys for the necessary information to form the following hypothesis: The extent to which violence in
school has become a social work risk factor by the small community of at-risk students who carry weapons has created an atmosphere of victimization, perpetration and overall fear within the
school environment. The dependent variable is regarded as the various violence levels determined to exist within the random sampling of at-risk adolescents, whereas
the independent variable is the weapon carrying statistics of the individuals. Extraneous variables included age and grade level, as well as status within the school. Fifty east-central Texas
students in grades nine though twelve were recruited to participate in the study. Pertinent statistical information was gathered from questionnaires in order to determine the extent of violence in
American schools. A multistage system was utilized among the studies, which were presented to a specific sampling of participants who were required to meet at least one of the
following criteria in order to be included in the sample: low socioeconomic status, educational failure, evidence of alcohol and drug use, parent drug use, and disciplinary actions at school or
poor attendance (Kingery et al, 1998). It appears that this particular sampling method is adequate for this type of statistical data gathering, inasmuch as there is no better way
to learn this information than through those who have experienced it. The primary measuring devices used for this particular research were posing questions and obtaining answers from a variable group
