as truly representative, and indications of patterns would need to be followed up for further studies in order to ascertain the true nature of the hypothesis formed, also that resulting
paradigms may be more widely accepted. The age of the sample used had a mean age of 67.7 with a standard deviation (SD of 4.5, for those seeking treatment
the mean age of 71.6 with an SD of 5.9. Mean number of children in the non-treatment group was 3 with a SD of 1, in the treatment group this
was 2.8 with an SD of 1.2. Mean height was 69.6 inches, with an SD of 2.1 for those not seeking treatment and for those seeking treatment a mean of
70.7 with an SD of 2.7. In terms of weight the mean weight of those not seeking treatment was 180.6 pounds with an SD of 17.2, compared with the heavier
mean of those seeking treatment of 194 with a SD of 38.5. The sample used was 100% white, predominantly Christian (21 Catholic, 18 Protestant, 5 Jewish and 4
other). The majority were also married (41 married, 5 divorced), and most had a higher than average level of education (8th grade, 1, high school graduate 7, 1 year com/tech
