We, as a society, wonder what it is that makes so many marriages unravel today. We wonder what is happening to the American family unit, and we worry that the
trend to dissolve marriages will only get worse. In addition, because of this powerful fear we actually have many states implementing various legislation that are making it more difficult to
get a divorce in an attempt to save the family unit. As we can see, the issue of marriage today, in terms of its apparent unraveling, is a very
powerful issue that has many confused. What was once incredibly sacred is now quickly and almost absentmindedly discarded. Now, of course marriages are not normally tossed easily aside, but in
comparison the decades past the truth is that our society seems to have very little respect for the institution of marriage. Bearing these realities in mind the following paper discusses
why marriages are dissolving so easily today. The paper argues that the ideals and the needs of couples in the past are not the same today, a reality that leads
marriages to lose many of the foundations that essentially keep a marriage together. The Unraveling of Marriages People who long for a real relationship, and there many who
