    The use of information technology in business is something which covers a number  of different areas, and has revolutionised various elements of the way in which business strategies are conducted. Information technology has not only changed the internal organisation of business systems, but  has also, through the advent of the Internet and the globalisation of communication, brought great changes in the way that companies interact both in terms of their production and marketing  strategies and the way that they communicate with suppliers, customers, and employees. From its inception as a comparatively slow and uneconomical optional resource in company organisations, IT has become an  essential part of all aspects of the modern business world, from the point of view of both the employer and the employee.  In terms of the way in which individual corporations incorporate the new technology into  their existing organisation, a number of commentators have pointed out that it is essential to see information technology as a methodology rather than something which is extraneous to the existing  structure. Leavitt (1998) makes the point that those companies which are the most likely to be successful develop an overall strategy in the first instance, and then look to the  various resources which are available in order to carry out such strategies in the most effective way.  Consequently, the use of information technology should be considered in the same way as other resources
