    the "big picture" of a company, determining and overseeing everything from a companys financial solvency to its image in the community. The CEO, however, cannot operate a company successfully without  knowing if enough resources are available. This is where a companys Chief Financial Officer comes in. While the CEO examines a companys big picture and figures out where fiscal  policy fits into a companys master plan, the CFO typically comes up with numbers and forecasts to bring larger definition to the overall plan. Because of this, the companys CFO  must regularly communicate with the CEO about the financial health of the company. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the  student to what a CFO is and does, and some of the concepts that he or she attempts to communicate to the companys CEO. In this paper, well examine the  company of Enrons accounting practices. Although what happened to this former energy giant is an extreme example of financial reporting gone awry, it does nicely outline the function of a  CFO and his or her responsibility to report a companys fiscal health to the CEO. Function of a CFO The CFO, very  simply, is chief of finances - the Chief Financial Officer. This is the person who oversees anything and everything regarding a companys fiscal operating policies.
