to the topic, well fashion this as a sample paper for a thesis proposal concerning cloud computing and whether its had a positive, or negative, impact on efficiency. Topic  Overview In recent years, in an effort to improve effectiveness and efficiencies of information services platforms, new technologies have been introduced in  the area of applications, data storage and even operations. One of the technologies that is gaining a great deal of popularity is the cloud computing platform. Though the term "cloud"  creates visions of misty views and "out there" platforms, the concept behind cloud computing is pretty straightforward. The cloud is a platform, or storage, or other IS functions that are  off premises from where the action is actually taking place. Basically, cloud computing provides computing services to a client through the Internet (Katzan 2010; 1).  Chappell (2008) points out that cloud platforms and storage are useful because when a development team creates an application that is on-premises (in other words, that runs within  an organization), the majority of what the application requires already exists - in other words, the operating system provides support for executing the application, interacting with the storage and even  providing remote storage. Cloud platforms can help in creating those applications, as well as assisting in operations and data storage (Chappell 2008). Cloud  services are grouped into three somewhat broad platforms; Software as a Service (SaaS); attached services and cloud platforms; in which actual applications are sent to the cloud, and the user  accesses it from the cloud (Chappell 2008). By the same token, businesses decide to embrace cloud computing because of reduced infrastructure costs, increased deployment flexibility (and speed); decreased internal overhead
