    and make recommendations as to which solution the hospital CEO should implement. The case is complex with numerous diverse factors involved. Chris has prepared the following report for  the CEO. Major Existing Problems There are any number of distinct problems but they can be placed into four broad categories: Faith Hospital must decrease costs and/or it needs  to increaser revenue; procedures and processes must be clarified; clear communication channels need to be established and they need better public relations. There are numerous facts to justify identifying these  four categories of key problems: 1. In the last year, the cost per patient has increased from $217 per patient per day to $240 per patient per day. This leads  to two questions: Has the hospital become less efficient? Is it possible to reduce the cost per patient without decreasing the quality of service? 2. The financial analyst reports there  was a 7 percent decrease in the number of patients in the last year. 3. The financial analyst also reports that 28 percent of all costs are fixed, in  other words, 28 percent of the costs remain stable regardless of the number of patients. 4. If the hospital maintains 7,863 patients for an aggregate of 39,866 patient days, the  hospital will have to reduce costs by 15 percent to break even. 5. Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) orders are implemented differently by different doctors and nurses. For instance, three DNR  orders were implemented in the ICU the previous week but there were no written orders to do so. Other staff members will not act on written DNR directives. 6. Certain  staff members are giving services and products pro bono. The pharmacist has filled prescriptions allowing patients to pay on an installment plan but there are rules against this sort of
