    Summary of the research paper:

    This 70 page is a dissertation case study up to the collection and analysis of actual data. The study involves an elementary school where the Four-Blocks Literacy Framework is being adopted but many teachers are resisting the change. The sections of this comprehensive paper include: Introduction, including background about the school, changing demographics, test scores, the Four-Blocks approach and change implementation. The Literature Review includes a comprehensive explanation of the Four-Blocks Framework with research studies reported; an example of a comprehensive literacy-based lesson plan; an extensive discussion of change management, including types and causes of resistance and strategies to deal with it. The purposes of the study are then outlined, followed by a methodology section that includes participants, an explanation of qualitative research and case studies, and the procedures for the study. The Concerns-Based Adoption Model is outlined because one component of the model is to be used. A draft survey for teachers is included. The paper ends with a description of how the data will be presented, a restatement of the purpose of the study and conclusions. Statistical data are included. Bibliography lists 52 sources.

    integration in terms of instructional approach. Integrated literacy instruction was not addressed in the school. Teachers have taught to the South Carolina State Standards. Prior to 2003, however, the  school did not participate in any state or national reading initiatives. It was believed the basal reading approach was adequate and certainly student test scores provided support for this opinion.  [Student, you might want to just identify examples of state or federal reading initiatives at this point. You do not have to do a big explanation, just identify them.] The  reading instruction strategies, such as round-robin reading with every story. Using this approach, students also responded to questions at the end of each story. The practices used to teach  reading were not research-based. When a student population is more homogeneous leaning towards a higher socio-economic level, students tend to do well simply because they are self-motivated and encouraged by  their parents. When the population is more diverse with students coming from a variety of backgrounds, non-research-based instructional strategies are not effective. [Student, you need to expand this section  by reporting other specific practices in the classroom.] Prior Student Achievement Boiling Springs has enjoyed high scores on the Palmetto Academic Challenge Test (PACT), the state testing program. This  test is administered each May. Boiling Springs has always received a rating of excellent on the school report card. This ended in 2003. At that time, the socio-economic composition  of the school changed. First, as described in the next section, 500 students were transferred out of the school while others were transferred into the school. Specifically, special education students  were bused to Boiling Springs from other schools. The school was required to test these children and include their scores in the report card.
