    generation looks at the surrounding society in a different manner, and yet we seem to get nowhere as the racial and ethnic tensions continue to exist. This causes us to  question what it is that makes us still feel the tension of such relationships in a society, no matter how evolved we like to envision ourselves. In the following paper  we examine how such tensions in the relationships between race and ethnicity may well have some foundation in conflict theories and the theories of order. Relations and Theories  One of the basis for conflict and order theories rests on the fact that conflict will always exist due to the inherent condition of society concerning wealth and power. Not  everyone can be wealthy and powerful, and yet there must be some who are wealthy and powerful. If there are some who possess the wealth and the power that would  indicate that probably a large portion of the society was completely without economic strength and without power. There is, in other words, always the complete opposite in existence. If we  assume that those in power and those possessing wealth are white, it would make sense that the next step down in the society, those of middle class, would predominantly be  white as they struggled to attain the next position. This would put them at conflict with those below, the racial and ethnic groups which possessed next to nothing. They could  differentiate themselves from the ethnic and racial groups because they were beneath them and not as close to wealth and power as the whites. In essence, through conflict they could  feel that they did possess some wealth and power in relationship to their position over those of racial and ethnic diversity. In regards to the order theory we note
