centuries evolution may have been very kind to the human being, but one could argue, not so kind to the process by which he chooses his leaders. Virtually any country
can be chosen in the world and it could be shown where, somewhere, in the history of that country there have been political reforms, and sometimes bloody ones at that.
It may not be bloody, but the first past the post has left quite a few bodies in its wake. Has it brought the reform and needed change that everyone
thought it would? A more pressing question might be: Is it an evolutionary step in the right direction, or is it going to pose more problems over the long haul
that it may be worth? How many areas will suffer the consequences of this type of political reform and in a ripple effect continue to affect the whole country, long
after it has been determined whether it is beneficial or not? It sounds like one gigantic gamble on parliaments part, only the real losers may be the very ones
it was designed to protect, serve and support. In the UK, the electoral system is called first past the post which means that in order for someone to become a
member of Parliament, he/she has to gain more votes than anyone else in their district(Past the post 2002). This simple sounding system does have its benefit in that the results
of the election are known quickly. This is because in this type of election, there is generally only one race on the ballot and the voters cast their decision on
the ballot by simply marking or puncturing a single box. This eliminates the confusion of multiple races and candidates. Experts state, "First past the post elections usually - though not
