    the following scenario provides both types of reasoning: A customer service manager at a Target retail store is working behind the scenes and notices her customer service representatives in  action. The customer service manager named Cecilia Observer is watching Sally Sorry help a well known customer by the name of Samantha Demander. Samantha often returns items that have been  open, demanding money back, even when the return violates the customer service policy. Celia Observer remembers a time when Samantha brought in a toaster that had crumbs in the tray,  was apparently used, and wanted to return it. She had the receipt but Target will not take back merchandise after a three month period. During that incident, Samantha quickly grabbed  the receipt back and walked outside. Then she came back in and said: "I want to return this item. It was a gift and I dont have receipt." Samantha knew  that the store might take back new merchandise it sells and issue a store credit. Another time involved a return of a bathing suit that was apparently used, but Celia  claimed was brand new. Some of the representatives were hard pressed to argue with the customer. When Celia Observer saw Samantha being helped by Sally Sorry, she was afraid that  Sally would crumble. Sally is very apologetic to the customers and seems to cave to their demands, even if she violates company policy. Sally had been written up twice for  making mistakes at the customer service desk. She was given one more chance to correct her behavior. Otherwise, she will be put back on the register. On this particular day,  Samantha comes in with a simple return of an item. She has the receipt as well and it was only purchased during the prior week. Thus far, in this scenario,
