    reason this occurs is due to the fact that for the majority of ones life, there has been structure, requirement and a specific task to oversee. Retirement removes all  that routine and responsibility in one fell swoop, rendering the individual without meaningful purpose. Society has trained people to value work and make it a significant part of ones  life; when that is taken away, the sense of loss can be overwhelming. Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman addresses this issue through  the lead character, inasmuch as Willy Lomans perpetual quest for success concludes with the death of a very miserable man. However, all throughout his tortured life, Loman was indeed  conscious of both his familial and social obligations, never losing sight of what was expected of him. This attention to social conscience is apparent from beginning to end of  Millers play, with each primary character relating to this concept in his or her own individual manner. "I dont say hes a great man. Willy Loman never made  a lot of money" (Miller PG). Studies show that there are many factors involved with the decision to retire after a certain amount  of years. What leads people to their retirement can vary from dissatisfaction with working conditions, apathy towards their job, inability to accept the workplace climate, missing sense of contentedness,  the amount or lack of input one has over important work-related issues (Taylor et al 217) and forced retirement. These varying factors need not all work together for an  individual to pursue retirement, but they are the primary causes that retirement is initially sought. One of the most difficult aspects about retirement
