that routine and responsibility in one fell swoop, rendering the individual without meaningful purpose. Society has trained people to value work and make it a significant part of ones
life; when that is taken away, the sense of loss can be overwhelming. Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman addresses this issue through
the lead character, inasmuch as Willy Lomans perpetual quest for success concludes with the death of a very miserable man. However, all throughout his tortured life, Loman was indeed
conscious of both his familial and social obligations, never losing sight of what was expected of him. This attention to social conscience is apparent from beginning to end of
