    the level of growth that is seen with internet technology. E-commerce is a form of trade that takes place over the internet. As such, most businesses will, at some point,  will have to deal with e-commerce either by entering into that medium, or by competing with those that are already in that area. The are of research will be the  way in which e-commerce will impact on an existing business. The question will be in what ways the research impacts, and how can a business adapt maximising advantages and minimising  disadvantages or barriers. 2. Research Objectives The objective of this research is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of e-commerce. Once these factors are recognized the way in which they  may add or detract from a traditional business will be examined. The aim of the research is to aid any business that is considering entering into this market. The advantages  are a pull factor, however there are also many cases of failure, for both large and small companies. If any organisation is aware of the pitfalls as well as the  advantages, planning will be better placed to achieve the desired goals and account for more factors. 3. Problem Statement Businesses are always looking for ways to increase turnover and profit  and increase competitive advantage. E-commerce has been seen as a tool that may enable these desires, but they are not always realised. The reasons are complex. To succeed the business  needs to understand the benefits so value form a e strategy may be maximized. However, it needs to understand disadvantages and see potential barriers so they may be circumvented. It  is only with this greater in-depth understanding that e-commerce will be successful. It is the problem of obtaining this information that this project seeks to address, gather relevant information together
