    operate effectively companies need to have staff who are able to perform their tasks in place. This means attracting and recruiting those who have the right skills and have the  right attitude and then placing them in the right job. In recent years a number of tools have emerged to help in the recruitment of staff, from the use of  psychometric testing to assess the personality traits of a potential employee to the use of the internet to expand geographic boundaries. Employment recruitment agencies sell their services to employers on  their ability to specialize in recruitment and gain better results for the employer. Therefore, with the different tools that have been developed and services used there does appear to be  anecdotal evidence that firm believe that improving recruitment and selection practices will enhance the performance outcomes of the individuals and the firm as a whole. 1.1 Aims and Objectives The  aims of this research are to consider to what extent this assumption made by businesses is true. Can enhancing recruitment and selection process increase the performance outcomes; if so which  types of enhancement have the greatest value. It is only by exploring the different approaches and assumptions made regarding the link between recruitment and selection and the firms performance that  any link can be assessed for correlation and causal relationship can be assessed. The objective is to determine what tools and strategies will have a positive effect on the recruitment  and selection process and assess if there is an optimal point for the use of different tools or approaches before they start to detract from the process and exceed the  cost exceed the benefits that they might provide. 1.2 The Research Question The research questions is does enhancing recruitment and selection processes have a direct impact on the
