with the united currency that many western European countries now participate in, there is a bond. It is true that governments in each of the nations of Europe are somewhat  different from one another. For example, France has always looked to socialism, always wanted a constitutional monarchy and desired socialized systems, unlike Britain for example. The French ideology is also  quite different from other western European nations, but to some extent, there is a European flavor that envelopes the region. What are the political commonalities amongst Western European nations? What  are the differences? France is a republic whereas the United Kingdom is a Constitutional Monarchy. Still, each state has three branches of government and there are great similarities. Germany is  a federal republic. Yet, while each nation has a different label--or perhaps share governmental types--there are a variety of things to consider. And while governmental types play a role in  whether or not nations are alike, there are many factors that enter the picture and make nations similar or different. In Europe, the nations share a continent and while in  some cases that does not seem to be significant--in North America, Canada and Mexico are very different from the United States--European nations are rather small and their existence is often  intermingled with neighbors. In some way, because of their close proximity and ease for residents and tourists to get from place to place, Europe has similar political ties and each  nation state had developed similarly through history. Although that is the case, perhaps the EU has created a situation where politics cannot be dissimilar. After all, the western European nations  are all members of the same club.
