    contend with the defense of what they deem indefensible on the basis that they are helping the miscreant because in doing so, he or she is really upholding the justice  system. Doctors perform elective surgery for vanitys sake when a patients life is at risk due to anesthesia. Does the physician allow a patient to take such a risk because  of the money, or because they believe that the psychological benefits of cosmetic surgery is worth the risk of life? There are many dilemmas that employees face on a daily  basis and these permeate many fields inclusive of every occupation from accounting to sanitation. In a hypothetical situation, provided by a student, Ted and Margaret are faced with an ethical  dilemma. They work for a chemical company and are asked to sign a statement that states a particular product is safe when in fact both parties know that is not  the case. Safety tests conducted were rigged. Ted and Margaret refuse to sign, even though their coworkers try to appeal to their sense of loyalty to the company. Ted  refuses to sign because he wants to uphold professional standards, and Margaret feels an obligation to people who might be harmed. In fact, it seems that both are taking the  noble road and one wonders why anyone would succumb to the pressure of signing a paper that is not truthful. Everyday these dilemmas surface. Some nurses confide that they witness  incidents of poor medical practice but there is the unwritten code that they cannot reveal any problems or else they will be blackballed in the industry. Many employees feel the  pressure in such situations. There is the infamous blue wall of silence in police departments around the country, something that Frank Serpico challenged at the NYPD.
