    There are many ways of examining events, Shone and Parry (2004) have an event planning model which can be used to plan as well as to examine an event which  has occurred, there are also more generalized mores as well as the wealth of event planning models such as SWOT and PEST analyses the former looks at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities  and threats the latter looks at the political, economic, social and technological influences. The event chosen for examination is one that is well known, but took place many years  ago. Despite this the level of unprecedented success is a factor that means it is still talked about today and has had an influence on subsequent events. This may be  argued as highly surprising as the underlying organizations was rather fragmented and the event was not perceived as being as important as history has shown it to be. The event  examined is that of the Live Aid concert in London England, on the 13th of July 1985. To put this event into the greater context, this was a  charitable event organized by Bob Geldof and others to raise money for charity to help alleviate the suffering in Ethiopia following harrowing television scenes. The concert was a follow up  to a highly successful record that was released the previous Christmas with the track "do they know its Christmas". The recording took place, with many well known pop stars,  in a single afternoon and was an example of how short term planning can have results, the Live Aid concert benefited from more planning, It was not the only concert  that day, there was a large concert in Philadelphia which followed on and was technically part go the same event.
