    change has been blunted. A national trend that saw approval in a number of states also ground to a halt at that time. But with the apparent onset of economic  hard times with their corresponding drop in tax revenues, many of the arguments in favor of casino gambling in Florida are beginning to resurface. Though there are substantial questions raised  by opponents, it is possible to address these, and the current economic climate, along with Floridas unique position with regard to gambling on the East Coast, are causing some to  suggest it might be advantageous to revisit some of the arguments in favor of this new method of revenue generation in the near future. It was in 1994 that the  state of Florida last addressed the issue of casino gambling. There was a national trend that saw, in a matter of a few years, the number of states sanctioning the  previously illegal operations from two (Nevada and New Jersey) to twenty (Greenberg 25). It was thought that Florida would be a logical successor, but a last-minute campaign by opponents, including  church groups, some local politicians and other traditional amusement corporations derailed the effort, and it in fact lost by a 24-point margin in the general referendum (Lynch 38). There are  a number of arguments put forth by opponents of casino gambling, but the understood motivation underlying many of them is religious and moral in nature. The Bible forbids gambling and  it is immoral, say these groups, and though they frequently couch their arguments in more secular, prosaic terms, their fervor in opposing any gambling measures, including this one, betrays their  true motivations (Anonymous A27). Unfortunately, there is little that can be said about that particular argument against gambling. Either you believe it or you dont. Not that this argument is
