generally have gained that knowledge through a reading of his autobiography "The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass." The following paper presumes that the student is familiar with "The  Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass," providing a bibliographic essay on works that discuss not only Douglass narrative but his life outside that narrative as well. Biography  - Frederick Douglass. This is a film about the life of Frederick Douglass. It is part of the Biography series on A&E. This film provides the viewer with a  look at the life of Frederick Douglass, including his narrative and his life after the narrative. As one historian notes he was "a major figure in the coming of the  Civil War, and the way the Civil War was fought. I think you can say he was the conscience of the nation." We watch the biography and see how he  was a friend and also a counselor of sorts for Abraham Lincoln. We watch as he battled against prejudice and fought for the freedom and liberty of all men and  women. We are also privy to an intriguing look at how he was once married to a white woman, which was a very sensitive issue during the time. We see  how even liberals of the North were surprised, if not appalled, at such a union. In essence, what this film presents us with is a very vivid and honest picture  of a man who was, after all, just a man. His circumstances were perhaps out of the ordinary and his determination was rare. But, he was after all just a  simple man who inadvertently proved to society that anyone can make a difference despite opposition. Dickson D.
