This had not been managed by diplomatic means so the closer ties tough unity in trading matters was projected at brining the  unity that Europe had never before been able to accomplish. 1999 saw the accomplishment of a goal that can be seen as very symbolic of the actual unity, which may  be realised one day, and that was the single European currency. However, the move of many countries towards a more unified Europe is still controversial in many countries. There are  fears of loss of identity and sovereignty. The effect on the economies, political frameworks, legal systems and society in general have all been aspects of concern. The future is always  unknown, but the past and present can give us a good indication of what might be seen in the future with regards these concerns. The Future of Economic Europe  The economic future is one of the aspects that many commentators believe that they already know with some level of confidence. The  formation of a European Central bank and the implementation of a single currency ties together the interests of many countries. Those who have joined this currency are not dependant  on the central bank which is governed by a board made up form the participating member states, for the setting of interest rates.
