However, within the realm of cultural geography, one can make reasonable predictions based on current trends. Expounding on the themes of cultural geography in fact  might provide insights as to what the future holds. First, the idea that population is becoming increasingly too large has been an area of concern. Although trends show that families  are smaller than they once were-and China in fact limits the number of births-with continued population growth , poverty will also increase. Further, the cultural makeup of the population has  become increasingly diverse. This can possibly add to racial tolerance in the future. Thus, two trends related to population are seen. One is the fact that if population continues to  increase at the present rate, the society will not be able to achieve contained, sustainable geographic areas. Rather, as the trend indicates today, globalization will become not just a savvy  way to do business, but a necessary trend due to the fact that peoples will not be able to exist without help from others. Further, urbanization and suburbanization will increase  in developed nations, leaving the existence of untouched habitats quite rare. The second trend noted is positive. The nations, particularly Western nations, are more culturally diverse. One can see  this in the U.S. for example, where black culture has become a dominant force in the music and habits of both Generation X and Generation Y. Intermarriage has become more  commonplace as a result which produces children who are of mixed heritage. This will change ideas about race in future generations, hopefully for the better.
