    Paper Store, Inc. Melody Bussey 11/01 Please Consider, for a moment, all the potentials that exist in the microcosm of  a computer. A user can virtually soar to the moon, or watch a streaming video of an open heart surgery. The Internet has become an additional arm and leg for  the computer, allowing access to literally millions of bits of information at the click of a mouse. Entertainment is high on the list of uses for a home computer and  now the technology for Internet gaming has entered the arena. What exactly is Internet gaming, how does it work, and is it just a fad like ebooks? What is the  impact economically in respect to the on-line gaming industry, and if so, what types of regulations will be put into place to safeguard users? In a nutshell, Internet gaming does  include simulated wars and flights in airplanes, either solo, or in tandem with a few other virtual players in a chat room type scenario. However, more often than not, the  term Internet gaming refers to on-line gambling and the industry related to placing wagers and games of chance. As discussed in this statement, "Internet gambling" refers to the use of  the World Wide Web and other technologies by businesses to engage in wagering(Fahrenkopf 2001). This particular industry is coming into its own. In fact, a recent survey of Internet users  worldwide indicates that 31% of Internet users have some interest in placing wagers via the Internet. That doesnt seem like a high percentage until you consider what 31% of the  worlds population might be(Xirtrix 2001). The unprecedented boom of the Las Vegas type of gambling has been lauded for its revenue, but the gaming industry has estimated that it will
