The strength of the quantitative approach is in its reliability or the repeatability of  the pattern. The same measurements should yield the same results every time. The strength of qualitative research lies in its validity or closeness to the truth; as such,  good qualitative research - by using a diverse number of data collection methods - should actually touch the core of what is going on rather than just skimming the surface  of the facts, which is why it makes for a better approach for human relations research than its quantitative counterpart. The validity of qualitative methods is greatly improved upon  by using a combination of research methods, a process known as triangulation used by independent analysis of the data by more than one researcher (Greenhalgh 740).  Choosing qualitative methodology for studying women and the glass ceiling affords a deeper reality, inasmuch as their aim is to "study things in their natural setting, attempting  to make sense of, or interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them [by using] a holistic perspective which preserves the complexities of human behavior" (Greenhalgh 740).  The researcher, being the prime instrument of data collection, is responsible for collecting documents used in the study of documentary accounts of events, such as interviews and meetings.  Using passive observation, the systematic anthropological technique of watching behavior and conversation in natural occurring settings, is another tool for collecting data. The use of participant observation is observation  in which the researcher - in addition to observing - also occupies a role or part in the setting. Participant observation is both extensive and intuitive as the researcher
