In order to determine whether  or not Paris might be considered in terms of a global city, one must first look at the concept of urban life, delving deeply into the classical Parisian soul by  which to gain a more comprehensive understanding of its people and its past. "Reading the [subtitles], we could be deep in South Central, but this isnt an inner-city drama: its outer city, the bantieue, the dreary housing estates  of the Paris suburbs, where immigrant communities, youth unrest and unemployment are shunted safely out of view in one of the most PR-oriented cities in the world" (Romney, 1995, p.  34).
