    cultural features, one might be led to such an understanding by way of gaining a significantly better perspective of what truly defines a global city. In order to determine whether  or not Paris might be considered in terms of a global city, one must first look at the concept of urban life, delving deeply into the classical Parisian soul by  which to gain a more comprehensive understanding of its people and its past. This element of enlightenment is part and parcel of Kassovitzs La Haine, inasmuch as the film  addresses humanity at its unadulterated core. Not a single character possesses a modicum of awareness when it comes to why he exists, choosing instead to look at life through  the perpetual anger and confusion that consumes them all. Hubert may have found an outlet for his penned up rage by beating on his punching bag and Said finds  solace in being a "squawky go-between" (Anonymous, no date), but Vince epitomizes the extent to which the global mentality has unwittingly cast aside much of society in the process of  putting a stronghold upon the worlds communities. Heralded as a "full-blown Urban nightmare....shot like a dream" (Anonymous, no date), La Haine brings forth the wholly negative aspects of Paris  as a global city. "Reading the [subtitles], we could be deep in South Central, but this isnt an inner-city drama: its outer city, the bantieue, the dreary housing estates  of the Paris suburbs, where immigrant communities, youth unrest and unemployment are shunted safely out of view in one of the most PR-oriented cities in the world" (Romney, 1995, p.  34). Hanekes Code Inconnu is yet another example of globalization gone wrong in what is otherwise a global city. The struggle to survive represents an integral component of globalization
