    global epidemic. When one considers the numbers of people that are found to be obese within the world this is obviously a true statement. There are many aspects  of this epidemic that need to be questioned, however, and there are also many definitions that are not black and white but lie in rather gray areas. These are  some of the things addressed herein. While it is true that the statistics show that obesity is a worldwide problem, it is also true that there is not any one  way to determine truly what defines obesity. There are many different measurement tests, the most popular being the Body Mass Index (BMI). Even this, however, has different cutoff  points within different organizations as to what constitutes obesity. Another point that must be addressed is whether or not obesity should be considered a disease. The fact of this  is that due to societal demands of several cultures, including the United States, the so-called perfect body is actually one that is too thin, too gaunt, and not healthy nutritionally.  Yet it is this overly thin society to which most teenage girls aspire. Because of the tremendous pressure to meet a false ideal body weight, there is an  epidemic within the psychological world of those adolescents and indeed, people of all ages, who attempt to change their natural look to something quite unattainable. This leads to depression,  compulsion, eating disorders and a wide array of psychological problems. It is this epidemic which should be addressed as much if not more than that of obesity. INTRODUCTION  Included herein is an introduction to the World Health Organization and their perspective on the obesity epidemic that is a global problem. It is amazing to learn that even
