cumulative effects caused the problem, the green movement is based upon the notion that cumulative effects can help with the solution. By integrating "green," i.e., environmentally friendly, energy/water saving strategies  into society, the overall effects will be beneficial to halting dramatic climate change, keeping the planet green. Many people, however, have the idea that going green is cost prohibitive. The  following examination of literature on the hotel industry and the trend towards "green hotels" examines this issue, using the hypothesis (to the student: this is also the thesis) that, ultimately,  green practices are cost effective. Research Method: The writer/tutor conducted an online search of the eLibrary database, using the keywords "green hotel," and specifying journals. Result: The articles selected  for analysis support the working hypothesis that green hotelier practices are cost effective. Discussion: BuildingGreen, which publishes an online directory of green building products, indicates that "green" is a  generic term that refers to building construction and practices that conserve water and energy, while contributing to establishing a healthy and attractive indoor environment (Higgins, 2005). Michael Pace, who is  the leader of the green program at Kimpton Hotel Group in San Francisco, explains that the principal goal of establishing a green hotel is to make changes that benefit the  environment, but do not affect the experience of the hotels guests or lower the quality of the hotels amenities (Higgins, 2005). Refitting properties to be environmentally friendly, Pace insists, does  not have to be cost prohibitive. He recommends finding the right price for green products by "working with people who want to save the environment and dont plan on being  millionaires" (Higgins, 2005, p. 40). One such company is Green Suites International, which has a large list of available products and has provided Pace with "hundreds of hours of consultation"
