    This 12 page paper is a literature review and methodology for research to consider what public policies policy the greatest role in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDs in Sub Saharan Africa. The paper looks at the virus and a range of methods already used to try and slow down transmission rates and argues that that measures which look only to cure and resolve HIV alone are bound to fail as they do not tackle the root causes of the spread of the virus. The only way to eradicate HIV is to deal with the environment issues that make its spread possible. The bibliography cites 16 sources.

    1. Introduction AIDs is a major disease in Sub-Sahara Africa. 3.1 million have been infected with the HIV virus and 2.3 million dying in the region  in 2004. The impact of the disease is greater than simply the health implications for the sufferer. The disease is creating unprecedented numbers of orphans and impacting on the basic  social structures that are in place. The development of policies to help spread the progress of the disease need to be tackled as the number of surfers increases. There  is little doubt that the spread of HIV/AIDs is the result of a lack of effective public policies and exasperated by poor social conditions. High levels of poverty and lack  of access to testing and treatment have lead to the increased prevalence of the virus. The argument of this paper is that the only way that HIV will be  tackled in sub-Sahara Africa is with a range of measures that target not only education, which is essential, but include education as a range of economic development measures that will  relive the pressures that contribute to the spread of HIV and AIDs. The hypothesis if the paper is that measures that look only to cure and resolve the problem HIV  are bound to fail as they do not tackle the root causes of the spread of the virus, The only way to eradicate HIV is to deal with the environment  issues that make its spread possible. To consider this we will undertake a literature review looking at what the disease is, how it spreads and how it is different in  Sub Saharan Africa compared to other regions. The paper will then consider the approaches that have been undertaken in order to try and prevent and consider which public policies have
