    genesis than he is. Suffice it to say, some refuse to embrace any sort of personal growth, either spiritually or emotionally. Why? Change is sometimes, and most oft times, painful,  uncomfortable. And, change is ultimately necessary. In their groundbreaking book, How People Grow, the writing duo of Dr. H. Cloud and Dr. J. Townsend, have produced a book which integrates  theology to human spiritual growth patterns. Differentiating this book from others in the same subject area is the idea that there  are certain pre-requisites which must occur before growth can occur. Specifically, it seems that this book has much to offer both those in the ministry and lay people who seek  to understand, or even resolve, issues which influence and affect all the various relationships one encounters over a lifetime. Some of the tools seem very basic to those who have  had the privilege to be brought up in a Christian atmosphere, but to those who have never experienced this environment, these first baby steps can seem impossible, or improbable.  What the authors have done, then, is prepare a book which is neither too technical, nor too preachy. Someone with little  theological or church background, but who come to the book with more questions than answers, will find this book as beneficial as those pursuing a degree in Theology. As do  many of their books, this book is laid out in straightforward divisions, in chronological perspective, including many personal anecdotes and relational issues which pertain to the units major themes: Knowing  God, Knowing oneself, Knowing others. Part I: Paradise Lost In a humorous anecdote, Cloud and Townsend start off the book showing just how quickly someone with good intentions
