How Psychologists Integrate The Study Of Human Development With Theories In Planning For Clients

    Number of Pages: 3

    Summary of the research paper:

3 pages in length. Without a clear understanding of the value of human development theories in the overall context of treatment, psychologists would be ill-equipped to provide a holistic therapeutic approach for their clients. The extent to which integrating the study of human development with planned therapy is a critical component of successful treatment is both grand and far-reaching; that psychologists incorporate the various aspects of how and when people evolve speaks to the use of a particularly helpful tool when planning appropriate methodology for clients. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Inasmuch as developmental psychologists "have a long history of  using triangle metaphors to conceptualise the social constitution of psychological development" (Zittoun et al, 2007, p. 208), it stands to reason how understanding the various stages of human development is  inextricably interwoven into the foundation of the therapeutic approach. People are individual beings whose physical and mental composition develops at different rates and in different stages; as such, adolescents  are not treated with the same corrective methods as their adult counterparts are because of the vast disparity between emotional and physical maturity levels. Moreover, there are a number of  diverse human development theories by which to guide therapeutic treatment, and psychologists must discern which ones are most appropriate for the client on a case by case basis.
