Today, a slew of options  are open to nurses. Nursing theory also has taken bold strides. Some nursing theorists--such as Rosemarie Rizzo Parse--has paved the way for new approaches in the philosophy of patient  care. With a focus on the patient, Parse has changed the way medicine is viewed. What is her background and what has she contributed to the field of nursing?  II. Biographical Data Rosemarie Rizzo Parse, RN, PhD, FAAN is currently a professor and Niehoff Chair at Loyola University in Chicago ("Rosemarie," 2000). She is the founder  and editor of the Nursing Science Quarterly as well as the president of Discovery International, Inc., a company that sponsors international nursing theory conferences (2000). Additionally, Parse is the founder  of the Institute of Human Becoming, where she teaches ontological, epistemological, and methodological aspects of that school of thought (2000). Parse has written many books and articles (2000). While  this nurse has contributed much to the field, her accomplishments were seemingly the culmination of a desire to help people throughout her life. Since childhood, it appears that Parse was  interested in the profession and since that time has done a great deal. Not only did she become a nurse, but achieving a doctorate in the field has proven that  she had taken her dream to the limit. Presently, Dr. Parses primary theory is used in practice in health care settings throughout the world including Canada, Finland, South  Korea, Sweden, and the United States ("Rosemarie," 2000).
