problem of hunger in the third world. In talking to a representative of a charity that deals with supplying food the thirds world in a relaxed atmosphere there are many
questions I would like to ask him. I choose this person as they are in a position not only to criticise the
problem, but also to understand it and know the impact that it has on the individuals effected. In starting off the first issues is why, in a world where
there appears to be a surplus of food in the west, is there hunger in other parts of the world and what is the relationship between hunger and poverty.
Others have argued that this problem is aggravated by the number of wasteful uses of resources by many of the developed countries, as it
has been claimed by some that many of the problems are not due to the lack of food and water, but due to the uneven distribution of them (United Nations
Population Fund , 2000). Therefore we need to look at this in terms of food distribution as well as supply. The problem of a growing population is not unique
to the third world countries, many western countries have seen the same phenomenon in terms of population growth, but not in terms of the same level of hunger. Therefore the
argument regarding the population may be valid in terms of a problem, but not in terms of there not being enough food. When we look at the supply of
food we can look at it in several ways. The causes of the lack of food and the limiting impact on its supply need to be considered in order to
