    Whilst at the current time quality of service is an issue and equipment is generally misunderstood, this has the potential to become the dominant for of verbal communication, including video  conferencing. The development is also likely to mean that the telephone companies will have to adapt to a changing market place. The potential is also seen as far greater than  simply producing more cost effective telephone calls. By examining the current technology and the development of IP Telephony this paper will seek to  define the current status of the technology and the potential that it offers. By understanding this the future may then be predicated with a model for development laid down. This  may be of value to both individual companies as well as the IP telephony industry in general. The main aim of this  paper will therefore be the identification of current and future potential and capacity within the industry and form that extrapolate the way that the technology may be utilised in the  future and what this will mean for businesses. Expected Outcomes/Deliverables The result of this project will be a written report that is divided in to several sections. The  first will deal with the technology as it is, what it is currently capable of and how it is used. This will then continue to consider what related developments are  taking place, both technologically and within the industry in general, such as the International Engineering Consortium with the agreements for set standards (International Engineering Consortium, 2003, MultiTech, 2003). The  paper will then look at potential of IP Telephony, ho it may develop and what this new technology will mean for those who use it. This can then be
