    Summary of the research paper:

    A 22 page paper. The major part of this paper addresses the topic of becoming an IT consultant, including an overview of becoming an IT consultant, advantages and disadvantages of becoming an independent consultant, finding potential clients, including Web sites that are useful, an explanation of the RFP (Request for Proposal) with advice on completing the proposal. And example is provided. Other skills needed by the IT consultant are reported. The last section discusses managing the acquisition of IT systems from the perspective of the agency. This paper is the same as Becoming An IT Consultant but an additional section on the phases of IT acquisition and the advantages of hiring a consultant to aid in this process. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

I am adding a section on IT acquisition management from the perspective of a company. Even with this additional information added to this paper, the student  needs to consider what Jawad and Reeves stated: "Literature directly relevant to success in Information Technology acquisition appears to be non-existent" (1997). These investigators went on to say that they  could find no literature that was directly related to or that "applied specifically to the field of IT acquisition" (Jawad and Reeves, 1997). The student suggested there are missing words  or "wrong words" in this paper. There are neither missing words nor "wrong words" here. The student suggested the inclusion of statistics regarding success/failure rates of consultants. These data do  not seem to be available. It would be impossible to calculate the ratio since most consultants do not take out a business license, there would be no way to obtain  the data.] Introduction Smith commented that "striking out your own is exciting, challenging, fun, and nerve-wracking all at the same time" (2000).
