    the various forms of thinking include not only the logical, but the scientific, persuasive and creative. Then, as if this was not enough to add to the communication problem, one  must account for various influences on these various types of thinking, such as gender, culture, ethnicity, birth order, religion, race, economic status and moral/ethical background. As one might correctly ascertain,  the role of a manager can be a daunting task as he or she tries to integrate various types of learners and their influences. The manager, though immediately responsible for  his or her department or stores success, can also be said to be responsible for maintaining a level of equilibrium between employees and staff members. This may be a delicate  balancing act. A hasty reaction to a situation or a decision made carelessly can lead to poor results for everyone. However, mistakes do occur. Occasionally, though all the thought  in the world has gone into a decision, the manger still makes the wrong choice. This can be due to the influence of factors in the environment, internal prejudices, or  simply may boil down to not having enough information with which to make a sound judgment call. There are some things, however, that the astute manager can keep in mind  when coming to some conclusion about a certain situation in which a decision must be weighed carefully. One of the ways that is beneficial to view a situation is  to look at it critically, using cognitive reasoning. Managers process information through nine different processes including: making sense of the pieces; processing only so much; simplifying the information; utilizing an  emotional component; defining a reality; digging for information; knowing what one is doing; knowing ones self; and having an open mind(McCall, Kaplan, 1990).
