    any troubled industry there are one or two companies that seem to be able to ride the problems out and end up doing fairly well.  One of these companies in the industry is JetBlue Airways Corporation, which trades on NASDAQ under the symbol JBLU (Bryant, 2004). Based in Forest Hills, New  York, JetBlue continues staying steady and earning profits while competitors (with the possible exception of Southwest Airlines) tend to keep floundering. The  carrier, which is relatively new on the scene (it opened during the late 1990s) bases its philosophy on low fairs and offering one class (complete with leather seats and DirecTV)  to 30 cities, the Dominican Republic and The Bahamas (Bryant, 2004). The airline also has a second hub at Long Beach Airport (in addition to its first hub at JFK,  in New York) (Bryant, 2004). The trick for its on time record is that it relies on less crowded airports located near  larger cities (Bryant, 2004). This is not to say, however, that JetBlue or even Southwest, its closest competitor has it made in  the shade, so to speak. Like other airlines, JetBlue is facing escalating fuel costs and huge consumer demand for lower fares. There is also the labor issue -- though JetBlue  has managed to avoid the labor problems that other airlines go through, in a heavily unionized industry such as the airline industry, a strike is always just a moment away.  Though unions are not yet in JetBlues ranks, organizing efforts are continually underway (Tahmincioglu, 2005).
