The truth is, long-distance relationships dont work, for the most part. If we take a look at what happens to veterans when
they return from war, we can see this. The two people go through different experiences while theyre away from each other, and when they return home, things simply arent the
same. The veteran is frustrated with his or her spouse for not understanding what he/she has been through. And the spouse has some resentment that he/she was left at home,
having to care for the family and other things unaided. Many times, such a scenario ends in divorce. Even without wars and
dismal homecomings, long-distance relationships simply dont work. For many people, trying to maintain a loving connection long distance is just too much work.
Long-distance relationships end up not working because contact falls off (Associated Content, 2008). In the early days of a long-distance relationship, people e-mail, call, write and text several times
a day. But after awhile, the novelty of sending love through the mail wears off. Writing can become a chore. Its hard to think of that other person as truly
being in your life. Most people dont want to take the extra time to ensure that communication remains important in this type of relationship (Winters, 2008).
