With this single quote, the world learned of  Marie Antoinettes innocence; however, she was never able to come to her own defense and ultimately paid with her life. The life of Marie Antoinette reflected a woman who  did not fit in to the traditional role that society had created for her. Wanting to live life on her own terms, Antoinette soon found that such actions would  be the cause of her demise. She won no admiration from the French people, who disliked her for several reasons: her foreigner status, her blatant disregarded for strict etiquette  of the French court, her association with unsavory friends, her extreme extravagance and her lack of devotion to Austrias interests. "The country was nearly bankrupt when Louis XVI ascended  to the throne, and the French people openly blamed much of their nations economic problems on the queens extravagance. As dissent amongst the populace increased, the kings ability to  keep control waned" (Queen of France and Wife of Louis XVI). I. MARIE ANTOINETTES SOCIAL DEFIANCE Marie Antoinette, born with the given name of Antonia, was quite a woman  of her own design. Not wishing to abide by typical social standards, her lifestyle inevitably caused her great dismay (Gower PG). She and her fifteen siblings were the  children of Austrian emperor Francis I and Maria Theresa, the queen of Hungary and Bohemia, with Maries own birth occurring in 1755. Her mother was the primary ruler in  Maries life, where she was taught everything about high morals. Strong and defiant herself, Maria Theresa raised her daughter to be the same way; however, the main difference between
