With just a brief review of the literature it becomes apparent that this is a subject with a wide span of coverage.  To undertake an exploration of such a wide subject, the first task might be to provide a general overview of the subject and then to narrow the subject down somewhat  into a particular area of concentration. In order to direct the student in completing their own research in this area, the chosen focus of this paper will be the  importance of facial communication. Typically we think of communication as being a verbal activity but communication is not limited to verbal communication alone. There are numerous ways of  communicating nonverbally. Haptics (sense of touch) is one of these ways. Also, the tonation of the voice and appearance of clothing and other artifactual items are important as  well. Even the sense of smell can be an important element of communication. In order to obtain reference material for  the stated project the student can choose to take one of two approaches or, in fact, to combine approaches. The first, of course is a traditional library search for  material. This type of search requires the students presence at the library and their familiarity with the computerized cataloging system specific to that library. It provides access to  thousands of books and other materials which are unlikely to be available in the second approach to conducting research which will be outlined below. The reference librarian can be  of assistance in this regard if the student is unfamiliar with how to locate material in their schools library. The second approach to locating reference material is somewhat easier
