all actuality, a model for the complexities of human behavior....Throughout the novel, the polar forces of good and evil are intricately woven between the characters, as well as within them.  Ralph inherently represents goodness while Jack appears to be intrinsically evil" (Anonymous Lord of the Flies by William Golding lordflygolding_rehx.htm). The two boys, as we can see, incredibly different. They  are, however, both leaders. Each character has his own group of boys who inherently follow. In the following paper we examine the two boys, comparing and contrasting the two.  Ralph Ralph is the first boy we really see and we inherently like him. He is rather simple, but seems self confident and appears to know himself. He understands  that he has been stranded on this island and also inherently knows that while this means freedom of sorts, it also eventually means responsibility. According one individual, "Ralph is the  best leader of the boys, even though they cannot see it. He runs a democratic government, is totally fair, has the right priorities" (Friedman Symbolism_in_Lord_of_the_Flies.html). In the beginning the boys  all choose Ralph as their leader for they see him as protective and somehow wise, which he is in comparison to Jack. "Ralph is the evenhanded, honest, thoughtful leader, while  Jack is the exact opposite, an unjust, callous dictator. When Ralph is hunted for in the end, this symbolizes a total revert to primitivism and evil" (Friedman Symbolism_in_Lord_of_the_Flies.html). We  note many things about Ralph, not the least of which is his display of "useful human qualities as a leader by working towards the betterment of the boys society. He  knows that in order to stay civilized the boys need stability and order" (Anonymous Lord Of The Flies, Comparison of Ralph and Jack 1035.php). As a result of this knowledge
