problems. No additional sources cited. SA101Jon.wps When working with groups, conflicts are inevitable. At the workplace, many personalities converge to form teams, departments and sections and of course,  everyone has their own way of working. Each and every individual comes to the workplace with ideas from his or her childhood, former places of employment, personal experiences and their  education as well. And while that is the case, in order to effect a good relationship between co-workers, it takes more than putting people together in a room and expecting  things to go smoothly. Management theory and practice does often encompass attention to group management, but often managers neglect the concept of group behavior. The study of sociology looks  at behavior and behavior patterns in groups or looks at trends to predict individual behaviors based on groups. While it is important to understand individuals--either as a part of a  group or on their own--group behavior is important when directing personnel and expecting them to be headed on the same path. Group cohesiveness is important when running a business. It  is desirable to be able to gather individual opinions and be able to embrace creativity that emanates from group members. However, it is also important to have a group get  along and forge ahead in unison. Johnson & Johnson (1999)exemplify this point in their volume "Joining Together: Group Theory and Group Skills." Their work informs managers and other high level  personnel in respect to what is needed to effect positive leadership and group behavior. Authors point to group dynamics as being imperative to the accomplishment of broad goals. In order  for a company or organization to do well group dynamics must be given attention. This book in fact emphasizes the notion that one cannot pay too much attention to individuality
