Introduction In order to maintain or improve profits firms are faced with choices, some concerning investments and increasing revenue and some concerning the reduction of  costs. When looking at improving profitability through cost cutting it is important that any measures adopted do not impact on the revenue creation, such as decreasing the desirability of the  product. The Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong want to enhance their profits, one suggestion has been to reduce the quality of the bedding and the towels. Before the hotel goes  ahead with this strategy it is important to assess whether or not this will impact on the desirability of the hotels services. If potential guests are less likely to book  and return to the hotel, decreasing the revenue the move could be more harmful than beneficial. Research needs to be undertaken in order to assess if this would impact on  the guests purchasing decision. 2. Research Proposal Primary research needs to be undertaken to assess what, if nay, impact, decreasing the quality of the bedding and towels would have  on the demand for the hotel rooms. The study is best conducted using existing and past guests to assess what features of a room are important and how the current  quality of bedding and towels are perceived. 2.1 Type of Study The research needs to gain results that are representative of the entire customer base, as such it is  important that an approach is used where there will be results that are statistically significant. This means looking at quantitative research, in order to gain sufficient numbers of results a  methodology has to be used that will facilitates a large number of responses. The use a questionnaire that the respondents can complete on their own may allow for a large
