The underground drilling operations have been fairly stable as these are services mining companies need on an ongoing basis to meat with safety requirements. The  surface drilling operations are more sensitive to economic condition; as such they are only just making a profit in the current climate as there is a low demand, due to  mining companies cutting back on this type of expenditure. The firm, which had a $20 million turnover in the last year, is highly reliant on the existing contracts. These contracts  are long term contracts but also allow for withdrawal on both parts with three months notice. There is no strategic plan in place for the next five years and the  firm has not considered its position if it were to loose some of the vital underground contracts. The firm is reliant on the offices for both administration and the  generation of business. The current set up is a head office with 6 satellite offices and there are two directors, one is responsible for the generation of new business and  one of the day to day running of the company. There is also a need to look at the information systems that are used. The information is accumulated locally,  put into Excel spread sheets and sent to the head office where it is input into the costing systems. The business is cost sensitive and has to determine the minimum  prices for contracts based on cost and as relies on the data sent in. The firm needs to develop a future strategy. 2.
