    book reshapes some of the common perceptions surrounding the Bay of Pigs incident through the evaluation of documents that have become available in the post-Cold War era. Though there  are some distinct issues that are not completely explained within the scope of this book, there is value to the perspectives provided and the new view of the Cuban conflict  from both sides. This book considers the major political issues and actions that occurred between 1958 and 1964, especially as they relate to the actions of President Kennedy and Russian  leader Nikita Krushchev. More specifically, the book focuses on the Cuban missile crisis and the events that lead up to the Bay of Pigs, but also reflects upon the  changes that have occurred in Russian-American relations since that time that have allowed for a more complete view on the actions of both leaders and their implications for relations with  Cubas Fidel Castro. The central method to this work is collaborative, and the two historians viewed the culmination of documentation from a variety of sources, including  the archives of a number of Eastern European countries and the documentation maintained by Russia regarding their action and their perspectives on the crises between both superpowers. While it  is evident that Fursenko played a major role in assessing some of the documents that became available following the opening of the documentation of Cold War Russia made available to  scholars of Western societies, this was just one segment of the process. In correlation, it was also necessary to view the perspectives on the American presidency, on the role  of Kennedy in order to shape the view presented. The evaluation of documents made available in the post-Cold War era, including a significant body of work provided by governmental
