    Everything from pharmaceuticals to sports equipment can be bought and sold electronically. The Music industry, which has traditionally been on the cutting edge of new technologies was arguably one of  the first to take advantage of the power of the internet. "The Internet is a powerful marketing medium for music," said Edgar Bronfman Jr., CEO of Seagram, the parent company  of Universal. "We have to embrace this change that is impacting the business and be at the forefont of the change"(Krochnal 2001). With the addition of streaming media and MPEG  technologies, the music industry was able to send samples of albums to customers through their computers. Some of the front runners in the online music industry today include cdnow.com, cd-wow.co.uk  and 101cd.com. What has made them front runners? In traditional businesses, the things that generally make one a front runner still  apply, it would seem. The ability to take a calculated risk, a fairly substantial risk leverage, and marketing savvy, are some of the characteristics that can be found in each  of these companies.
