    are faced with new challenges. In this new economy, organizations face hypercompetition (Kotelnikov, 2004). Consumers want things cheaper, quicker and in the way they want it (Kotelnikov, 2004).  Kotelnikov (2004) said that if organizations are to be successful, they must be able to change rapidly and often. This requires managers to think and behave differently than in the  past. A new organization must be created, one that emphasizes learning and the ability to change and that takes into consideration the inability to accurately predict the future. The organization  must understand that change is inevitable, it cannot be stopped and it cannot be ignored. A multinational corporation is vulnerable to many changes that can have a positive or negative  impact on the companys bottom line. For instance, laws and regulations can change in the host country or the value of the host countrys currency can change. Political uprisings in  developing countries can have a serous deleterious effect on business. As Kemelgor, Johnson and Srinivasan (2000) comment "Change is recognized as being either planned or unplanned" (p. 133). Change  that is planned is usually systematic and controlled whereas change that is unplanned is typically the result of situational variables (Kemelgor, Johnson and Srinivasan, 2000). These authors cite Fishman, "in  a world that is changing with incredible speed, ambiguity is a constant" (Kemelgor, Johnson and Srinivasan, 2000, p. 133). If organizations do not anticipate and plan for change, they will  always find themselves in reactive modes of operation instead of the preferable proactive modes (Kemelgor, Johnson and Srinivasan, 2000). Kotelnikov commented "You can bring the change about yourself or  it can come in ways that give you little choice about its what, when, and how" (2004).
