    However, the market has changed and become more competitive as well as the world hitting a recession. Like many other companies Intel has seen a fall in terms of the  revenue it brings in, this has been emphasised by the losses on some equity investments. In considering to position of Intel we cannot separate the company form its environment, and  as such the performance of the company is considered not only in relation to its own past performance, abut also in line with the semi-conductor market as a whole. Here  we find that the market is still growing, but at a decreased rate with lower unit process. For Intel to survive and prosper  it needs to maintain a competitive advantage as well as needing to cut costs. II. Method This report is being undertaken by looking at both primary and  secondary data that is widely available by using the Intel reports and secondary sources such as business journals. We will also use accepted business theories and concepts and apply them  to the case of Intel. III. Background The company Intel is well known for the innovations that have made is a global brand name associated with computer  processor chips. The company which was founded in 1968 now has an annual turnover of $26.5 billion, with over 80,000 employees in 45 worldwide offices and over 450 different product  lines (Intel, 2002). Like many other companies in the IT sector the company has faced many changes as the environment is one that is both dynamic and challenging.  In order to consider and assess the current situation of the company we need to gather data on the current position of the company, its
