centuries it would seem. Of course, we have only recently really come across legal debate over issues concerning creationism and evolution. In "When All the Gods Trembled" by Paul K.  Conkin we have an author who attempts to examine the subject of science and religion, portending to offer explanations. The following paper presents a brief examination, or summary, of Conkins  book and then examines a few arguments presented by Conkin. Summary In the beginning of Conkins book he states that he finds most often, "an irresponsibly irenic response  or apology. The new and the old, so the conventional message goes, when fully or properly understood, do not conflict. One can reconcile both," which is a statement regarding religion  and science (ix). He then indicates "Or, in a language that reflects either stupidity or a deliberate refusal to define terms and think rigorously, I confront ad nauseam the assertion  that science and religion do not conflict" (ix). With t his premise, or thesis, he sets out to prove that there is a great deal of conflict between the two  and that a real and solid relationship between the two is perhaps possible. His work essentially begins with a discussion of the origins of Western beliefs concerning gods and  human origins. He discusses the beliefs maintained by the three major Semitic religions and then discusses the role of Charles Darwin. In the section on Charles Darwin he works on  analyzing his "Origin of Species," for the most part rejecting much of what people argue today in an attempt to illustrate that Darwin himself was never one to preach against  God and that, in fact, Darwin was very much a religious man. This is a section used by Conkin to begin an illustration of how science and religion can exist
