Introduction The first thing the student writing about how organizations empower their people is to consider the various ways in which  he or she has personally felt empowered in an organizational context. In order for any person, especially one already serving in a leadership position or one with the potential  for assuming a role of business leadership he or she must work to nurture and enhance the skills that will assure successful leadership development. The student working on this  project should understand that in order to nurture their organization roots successfully, executives first must take the time to develop their own philosophy, to determine who they are and exactly  for what they stand. An unspoken mandate dictates that they identify those points of honor and integrity of greatest value to them, points that are subject to neither negotiation nor  compromise. Second, executives must be willing to live their philosophy. The adage "walk the talk" becomes an even more important truism for contemporary executives. Integrity spoken must become integrity lived.  Further, executives should accept the Socratic principle that "the unexamined life is not worth living" and critically evaluate, even challenge, the practical application of values that they express.  To take such a thought a step further, one might say that the person who wants power in the organization should be certain that he or she also empowers  those around them. Such an action demonstrates that such a person has both the capability and the sensibility to know that personal power is not gained at the expense of
